To be honest, the last 30 yrs of professional activity were challenging at times, with ups and downs as in any business (well, mostly ups). I was prepared for all sorts of scenarios, making contingency plans for this or for that situation, aware that the path can stray into trouble, especially in this kind of profession. Hard work, resilience and honesty paid in the long term.
I have never thought that 2020 will present me with an altogether different challenge, actually it all started in a very good fashion for me. When the pandemic wave hit Romania, I wasn’t even remotely prepared for what was to come.
First of all, my professional traveling in Europe was severely curtailed, and completely out of question in countries serviced by my company. This thing developed badly very fast, inasmuch as soon after April 2020, I was unable to travel for work. As we used to develop and research insurance claims in most of the Eastern and Central Europe, this hit us in a way that we never thought it would be possible. All right, there are phone inquiries, but these are often a hit and miss thing, and a professional claim investigation is not conducted by phone or email message exchange. You need to be there, you need to walk and talk and check with your own eyes. Suddenly, walk and talk physically where the event took place was not possible.
And this came as a nasty surprise, for us and for our clients of course. But we developed additional ways of dealing with clients requests, we developed our services in the areas which were not subject of travel restrictions and slowly, we came to appreciate the additional new methods of remote investigations (well, to a certain extent, that is).
Speed of reaction and adapting to the new situation made us to overcome (to a degree) the severe loss of our ability to travel, for and on behalf of our clients. We are still continuing to search for new methods of researching our projects, both in Romania and the other Eastern and Central Europe countries, and so far, we have managed to open up Moldova and Bulgaria for investigations and level of work our clients were used to get from us.
Would 2021 bring a resolve of this entire situation? If so, I really am looking forward to it. Meanwhile, we are here for our clients, and as usual, really commit to their projects research and completion. Rest assured that in spite of the current situation, we stand by our commitment to each and every customer. As always !
